Jack Nicklaus Takes Time to Catch Up with the Challenge

Jack Nicklaus, one of sports most celebrated golfers, took time out of his busy schedule yesterday to renew his support for the National Golf Club Challenge, in aid of Help for Heroes.

While attending a charity golf event in Manchester, Jack, though tired from his journey, generously made time to speak to Challenge event director, Stacey Jeffries and admire the stunning Lee Westwood Cup (pictured below).

“...pay it forward”
Jack, well known for his keen support of the forces in the USA, has already kindly given his backing to the National Golf Club Challenge by sending a heart-felt message of support (see below).

The National Golf Club Challenge is a UK charity golf event on a scale never seen before. The Challenge will unite hundreds of golf clubs and thousands of golfers in demonstrating their support for our injured armed forces.

For more information, visit the National Golf Club Challenge website >>

As well as raising a lot of money for the superb Help for Heroes charity, each participating golf club will compete for the right to call itself The 2010 Help for Heroes National Golf Club Challenge Champions.

Jack Nicklaus
We awake every day to a life of freedom and choice, and too often we take for granted or even forget the brave men and women who every minute of every day put their lives in peril to fight for those freedoms and against oppression. Any sacrifices of time and money we might be able to make pale, embarrassingly, in comparison to the sacrifices they make for us. The price they often pay is enormous, so we can't put a price or limit on our support.

For all of us who love the game of golf and for those of us who have been given so much because of this great game, it's time to pay it back. And in doing so, we pay it forward.

The efforts we have seen in the United States and now in the UK through Help for Heroes and the National Golf Club Challenge are truly a meaningful and impactful way for the golf world to recognize, thank, honor and aid our wounded and weary troops. I have always held a special place in my heart for the golf courses and clubs of the UK for the ways they embrace our game and respect its rich history and traditions. So it is only fitting that the birthplace of golf gives these efforts new life.

Be it home or abroad, we all recognize these are tough economic times. Be these are far tougher times for our courageous men and women of the military. So from the heart, we ask golfers from around the UK to unite for this worthwhile cause. To help them should not be viewed as a plea; to help them is a privilege.
