Four Living Legends Support the National Golf Club Challenge

Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Seve Ballesteros join Gary Player in giving their support to the National Golf Club Challenge.

The Challenge, recently featured on the European Tour website, will bring hundreds of golf clubs, and thousands of golfers together on the same weekend as part of a nationwide charity golf event - with the aim of raising a million pounds for the superb Help for Heroes charity.

With golf clubs entering on a daily basis, the National Golf Club Challenge is on course to become the largest amateur charity golf event to take place in the UK. The Challenge will be held on the 24th and 25th of July 2010 and is free to enter.

Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Seve Ballesteros and Gary Player Back the Challenge

Jack NicklausWe awake every day to a life of freedom and choice, and too often we take for granted or even forget the brave men and women who every minute of every day put their lives in peril to fight for those freedoms and against oppression. Any sacrifices of time and money we might be able to make pale, embarrassingly, in comparison to the sacrifices they make for us. The price they often pay is enormous, so we can’t put a price or limit on our support.

For all of us who love the game of golf and for those of us who have been given so much because of this great game, it’s time to pay it back. And in doing so, we pay it forward. The efforts we have seen in the United States and now in the UK through Help for Heroes and the National Golf Club Challenge are truly a meaningful and impactful way for the golf world to recognize, thank, honor and aid our wounded and weary troops. I have always held a special place in my heart for the golf courses and clubs of the UK for the ways they embrace our game and respect its rich history and traditions. So it is only fitting that the birthplace of golf gives these efforts new life.

Be it home or abroad, we all recognize these are tough economic times. Be these are far tougher times for our courageous men and women of the military. So from the heart, we ask golfers from around the UK to unite for this worthwhile cause. To help them should not be viewed as a plea; to help them is a privilege.

Jack Nicklaus

Arnold PalmerWhat an excellent way for the golf world, through the Help for Heroes program, to honor and aid the needy wounded troops of the UK with such a far-ranging and potentially-lucrative fund-raiser as the National Golf Club Challenge next summer at The Belfry.

The sacrifices made by the military forces of your country and mine to protect our freedoms and fight oppression must not go unrecognized, ignored or forgotten. Many brave men and women have suffered often-grievous injuries in the line of duty and they deserve everyone’s grateful and wholehearted support..

Arnold Palmer

Seve BallesterosI feel the National Golf Club Challenge is a fantastic way to get the golfing world to support a very worthy cause. I have dedicated my life to golf and think it’s great to see my sport at the centre of a huge fundraising event for UK soldiers. Good luck and play well!

Seve Ballesteros

Gary PlayerEvery day many of us take for granted the sacrifices made by those who fight for our freedoms. We take for granted the opportunity to enjoy an afternoon playing a round of golf, while a soldier is off firing a round of ammunition. It is our obligation to support those wounded heroes who have dedicated their lives to protecting ours. The National Golf Club Challenge is a meaningful opportunity for the golfing community to demonstrate their own commitment and support for these brave individuals.

The Challenge – 100 Clubs and Counting

Thousands of golfers will compete in The National Golf Club Challenge by playing at their local Help for Heroes charity fundraiser on 24th or 25th July 2010.

We are very humbled to have the likes of Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Seve Ballesteros join Gary Player in supporting the National Golf Club Challenge.

We are passionate about making the National Golf Club Challenge a resounding success for all involved. To have four of the greatest golfers who have ever lived support our initiative to help our injured troops in their time of need, is a major boost to the Challenge and what we are striving to achieve.

About Help for Heroes

Help for Heroes was the idea of appeal chairman Bryn Parry and a group of friends and relations. They wanted to help wounded soldiers returning home from combat and came up with several fundraising ideas which led to Help for Heroes being born.

The Charity are completely non political and accept wars happen under any government, all they want to do with the help of the British public, is to assist our wounded heroes. Find out more at www.helpforheroes.org.uk.
