British Golfing Star Patrons the Challenge

Posted on 7th January, 2010

We are very pleased to announce that former Ryder Cup winner and much loved BBC golf commentator Sam Torrance is to patron the National Golf Club Challenge.

Sam won the Ryder Cup as both a player in 1985 – when he holed the winning putt on the 18th green at The Belfry – and then again in 2002 as the European Team Captain.

Sam Torrance"I'm delighted that golf clubs up and down the country are supporting the National Golf Club Challenge in July 2010. It's one of the most worthy causes I can think of. We take for granted the job that service men and women do day in, day out, to protect us, often in the toughest of conditions.

"Hopefully this challenge will make us all stop and take a few moments to think about their dedication and selflessness, and show some support and thanks for the great job that they do." Sam Torrance

The National Golf Club Challenge is a charity golf day on a scale never seen before. The aim is to bring golf clubs throughout the UK together on the same weekend (24th & 25th July 2010) to hold hundreds of charity golf days – and compete to win some spectacular golf prizes.

The event will unite hundreds of golf clubs and thousands of golfers in demonstrating their support for our injured armed forces. As well as raising a lot of money for the Help for Heroes charity, golfers will compete for some outstanding prizes, including golfing holidays to Egypt.
