Famed for their innovation, quality and craftsmanship, Waterford and Wedgwood trophies have been associated with incredible moments of celebration in the world of sport for over 60 years. So when Wedgwood agreed to design and produce the Help for Heroes National Golf Club Challenge trophy, we were absolutely thrilled.
What better way to reward the 2010 Challenge winners, than with a trophy from Wedgwood, a brand that symbolises the same dedication to excellence that typifies our injured armed forces.
Gerry O'Keeffe, Wedgwood
Wedgwood (and Waterford Crystal) now part of the WWRD group, have enjoyed a long association with professional golf, producing among others, the stunning World Golf Championship trophies for the USPGA. “That association together with a proud tradition of giving back to the community has led to our collaboration with the National Golf Club Challenge in aid of the Help for Heroes foundation creating an equally impressive trophy for this very worthy cause” – Gerry O’Keeffe, manager for Sports and Special markets at WWRD.
The 'Lee Westwood Cup'
As one of the Challenge patrons – and keen supporter of the Help for Heroes charity – European number one Lee Westwood has given permission for the Challenge Trophy to be named 'The Lee Westwood Cup'.
The trophy, now in the design phase, will go through an intensive sixteen week process from design through modelling to construction. You can use the viewing panel below to zoom in and view illustrations of the cup in more detail.
The Stunning 'Lee Westwood Cup' will be hand thrown and turned out of blue Jasper and hand decorated with white bas-relies golfing and military figures forming the main design features. The trophy will be mounted on two blue jasper plinths and all edges hand gilded in 22 carat gold.
